Last week, the Grade 5’s started learning about Puberty. Puberty is when your body goes through a series of changes as you transition from Childhood to Adulthood. Boys and girls go through different changes, but some of the similarities are growth spurt, change in voice, and hair growth in pubic and underarm areas. We also go through hormonal changes, which causes some changes in emotions, too. We get pretty moody and/or crabby. Worst of all, we get pimples. I say worst because it makes your face look ugly. I think it’s important that we start learning about Puberty now, because a lot of people start going through Puberty around this age.
My question: Why do we get pimples? On 27-29 of April was the grade 5 camp. Grade 5 had lots of fun we did rafting, tree climbing, sherwood and challenge village. I learned about malaysian cultures. I have learned how to make kuih kodok and how to play a malay game. These are the ingredients to make kuih kodok. You will nedd 5-10 banana’s,5 big scoops of plain flour,3 teaspoons of sugar 3 teaspoons of coconut flesh and you will need 2 teaspoons of baking powder. This are the steps you need to play the traditional malay game.Get a top the longest top is the defender and the rest of the tops are the attackers. The defender shot the top first. Then the attackers are going to shoot next they are trying to stop the defender's top from moving. I felt happy. The whole grade 5 was able to cook a malaysian dish and play a malaysian game. Why are many malaysian words are similar as spanish and tagalog ? Dear Parents The Book Swap is coming! Over the next couple of weeks, please help your child to check your bookshelves for gently used books that they do not want to read anymore, and be ready to bring them to school between Monday 23rd and Friday 27th May. Students will receive tickets for 3 different types of books; chapter books, picture books (including non-fiction) and books in languages other than English. On Tuesday 31st May, if students have a ticket for a chapter book, they can go to the MPR to swap it for a chapter book, if they have a picture book ticket, they can swap it for a picture book, and so on. Happy swapping! Ms Kate On Monday we started to have swimming class in school. We learned about energy in different ways. In Math we moved onto another topic - converting fractions into decimals and percentages.
In UOI we had to find a news article about energy and write a summary about it.The first article that I chose was about recycling. I found it hard to explain the link to energy because it was not really about it. I made my search clearer by using a new website for energy. I think energy is important in the real world because we need energy for everyday life. For example, light, thermal and chemical. I felt happy that I learn many different kind of energy in class. I am wondering what is tidal energy. First Day at Camp - Please view updates of Grade 5 camp by going to www.twitter.com/#isspride4/26/2016

In U.O.I. I have learned about kinetic energy and potential energy. I didn’t know specific vocabulary, but this week I have learnt specific vocabulary, more detail and more information about these types of energy. Potential energy is when energy is stored. Potential energy can change into kinetic energy when it starts to move. It is important in the real world, because it is always happening around us. I am using kinetic energy to type this now. Learning about kinetic energy and potential energy was interesting, because it was happening all around us. Are there any things that don’t have Kinetic energy or potential energy? Delfina reflects that she showed she was....
a Risk-Taker: We thought of doing two actions which could of been a bit challenging but my teammate really wanted to do one of them so I took the risky choice and took action for the PTA presentation and walked the dogs. It turned out pretty good and we haven’t had any trouble by doing two actions. Open-Minded: When putting my display up, I asked a couple of friends for thoughts on how it looked and if I could make everything better. Nathaly reflects that she showed she was... a Thinker: My thinking has changed over time because when I was learning about animal testing I thought it was all negative but now I know that animal testing is for us. a Communicator: I showed my findings in a scrapbook and a poster, I thought it was good because there was not so much information in them so the younger audience won't get bored. Ricardo reflects that he showed he was.... Principled: I am principled because I never forget my meeting with my mentor, the time that we meet, my U.O.I homework. I have being working with my group outside of school by chatting and going to google slides and google docs. Ian reflects that he showed he was.... Balanced:In my home I am managing my workload like doing my exhibition work and play. Julia reflects that she showed she was... Knowledgeable because I am learning more about my topics. I have used many of my primary and secondary resources to help me. I need to learn more about potential cyber bullying situations and who or what causes them. Koei reflects that he showed he was.... a communicator: Because I did chat to my group members and doing the exhibition works at after school . I need to share my Ideas to my parents and my group more. Lucas reflects that he showed he was.... an inquirer: I have inquired into my exhibition question in many different websites that’s why our bibliography was so long. My questions changed into inquiring questions like when we need to research to find the answer. I’m mostly trying to make the questions in more than one way. I also asked all of my partners of what they think. Reflective: I think I need to work on being more reflective to pause and think if that was helpful. Yeonbi reflects that she showed she was... a risk taker because I tried out new challenges like soccer field for all the people to play soccer together. That was a challenge because I have never done that before and it was hard to get girls to play they did not want to play or had a meeting. Sean reflects that he showed he was.... a thinker. At first, I didn’t know anything about the connection and what even it meant. However as the research continued, I started to think deeper about how is sport and individual appearance connected. The connection is that you could be excluded in particular sport by racism, feminism, or difference in genders. Altea reflects that she showed she was... a risk-taker: I had been a risk taker for making a song with my group. I don't actually make songs I just sing songs that are famous and that are not my own creation. Koharu reflects that she showed she was... reflective:I reflect the work each day like what did I work well and what I can improve on. When I present the presentation to the PTA,I reflect like I did well at tell the information to the PTA but I thought I can improve on my voice because my voice was small and not clear so next presentation I can use loud voice. Yutaro reflects that he showed he was.... reflective when I think well at using clear voice and eye contact and I think still need more concentration because when I finish one presentation and I sat chair so I think need concentration. Earl reflects that he showed he was.... knowledgeable because I had learned a lot more than when I started like I learned all these type of mental challenges like stress means pressure. Ellie reflects that she showed she was... principled because I was always a responsible digital citizen when I was on the computer researching, making keywords, making information report and making a publish piece. Niamh reflects that she showed she was... an inquirer because I was constantly changing the questions and making them more interesting to research and get information from. My questions used to have small and short answers and now they have long interesting answers. Example: Can a mental challenge affect a child? changed: How does a mental challenge affect the social skills of a child? Daniel reflects that he showed he was.... more open minded because Yayan’s mother thought that there are only bad effects of gaming and I told her that there are good effects too. Koki reflects that he showed he was.... caring about environment because we accidentally put brochure opposite but we tried to make better and save the environment from putting into recycle bin and make another one. Reiki reflects that he showed he was.... communicator to my mentor, group members and my parents for different ideas for my key concept questions, action, display formats. For example for my display format I talked to my group members and thought of the lever I made for my first question. Yayan reflects that he showed he was.... a thinker. My thinking changed and what I think on the first time is that there are only negative effects on gaming. Now, my thinking is that gaming had both negative and positive effects. I have thought what I am doing because I think first before sharing ideas like what color do our group wanted for the exhibition board. I have a plan for sharing our action cycles when presenting the board. I needed to work on time management because I don’t do my exhibition work that often at home. I also need to practice my line for the exhibition performance. . |
