Grade 5.2 2016-2017
Realising our potential
Today we say farewell to James after his several years at ISS. Even though he won't be with us during the whole journey of Exhibition, he shared his passion about birds and we hope to hear more about his inquiry in the future. We wish him all the best in the UK as he begins a new chapter in his life book.

Classroom http://tinyurl.com/feb17iss Integrators http://tinyurl.com/feb17issint G5.2 showed their outstanding skills as cooperative communicators during their presentations at this week's assembly! One group of students chose to share their learning about what is media and the strategies that media makers use to influence the way we think and act. They also created a poster using some of these strategies. The audience was quick to identify the Star Power strategy with Taylor Swift! A second group of students chose to share their learning of figurative language in a game show skit. Their audience was in stitches with the humour in their skit and the cast underlined the importance of showing integrity. Thank you to all those who we are able to join us for the live performance on Friday. This week the children's author Dave Lowe came and did a presentation. He told us how he became a writer and tips and tricks with writing. He also told us on how he gets inspiration, and also how he got inspiration for the books he already wrote. He told us about his childhood and how it inspired him. He explained on how editing and revising your writing over and over again can, improve your writing and make your story more interesting and attention catching.
Using our communication and thinking skills, Grade 5 students met together with Ms Skrtic to write our central idea for our upcoming Exhibition on April 25th and 26th. After learning criteria for a good central idea, they enjoyed creating the worst possible central idea and sharing them with others as a good laugh. Then the challenging task of writing a central idea arrived and many students used their thinking skills to create relevant and engaging statements. Next they met in groups, analysing and evaluating their own and others central ideas. After much debate, they narrowed it down to four central idea statements. This week students will be further evaluating and finally choosing our central idea for Exhibition 2017 - to be announced soon!
