Grade 5.2 2016-2017
Realising our potential
Every Wednesday, we go to the library and exchange books.
First, we return the book that we borrowed last week. If you forget a book, tell Ms.Siti and bring it back tomorrow. Then we take the bookmarker and choose a book. Read it a little bit and if it’s hard to read or you don’t like it you’ll choose another one. When we decide the book, we bring it to Ms.Siti and borrow it. Don’t forget to bring books back next Wednesday! This Wednesday, I borrowed “Thea Stilton and the ice treasure”. This is a volume of an adventure novel series where 5 mice solve problems in travelling all over the world. In this adventure, they go to Alaska for a conference held by the Green Mice, an ecological association. You can learn about a history and culture of Alaska. What is your favorite book?

http://issg5-2.weebly.com/portfolios1.html Here are our goals we chose for this week. We will reflect on them on Friday. How could you discuss your goal with your family and celebrate your success and think of solutions to your challenges? After enjoying peace during our guided meditation today, students created their personal wish for peace in the world. We have been reflecting on areas of strength and ways to improve as learners. We set ourselves personal learning goals for this week.
This week we all went to the Chinatown Heritage Centre. There we learned the history of old Chinese migrants. First we went on the bus. I sat on the font since I was motion-sick. James and Enzo we're behind Emilie and I. The bus rides was nice after all we got a big bus. When arriving we had followed Ms Thomson lead to the heritage centre. Near it was loads of shops selling a variety of things I'd not seen before. We immediately ate snack soon afterwards, later we went in the heritage centre was a shop house. Next we met our tour guide a nice man with a sense of humour. We started our journey at the second floor full of cubicles. Along time ago the rent was $5 or $20 for a room that size per month.
In the design lab, we had to build a tower using 50 straws, a roll of tape and scissors that would support the weight of a tennis ball. First we started with a hexagon and then we taped it to the floor. Next we built a square on stilts on the hexagon. After that we added supports while Enzo made the base/holder but we realised we needed to add some supports so we added them. Finally we placed the ball on top and it worked! We had done the task!!! It was our first time going to the design lab. At first the smell really bothered me but after a while it was all right. Our teacher mr gallagher told us that we were going to build a tower that will alow a tennis ball to rest ontop but we only ad 50 straws 1 role of tape a pair of scissors and i heavy tennis ball and oh yeah 20 minutes exactly, the tower had to be tall. So me and my group got to work we all had different ideas this is the one we originaly chose. |
